Historical Civil War Re-enactments & Living History salute to the 26th MI Infantry and related area units. This group is open to men & women of all ages to participate and educate the public about Civil War History. Most of Northern Michigan's membership being with Co. A. Lakeshore Tigers,(Which had included frequent service near area Native Americans who were serving in Co. K. of the 1st MI Sharpshooters, 9th Corps). Encampment Host unit for the annual Port Oneida Fair, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore the end of the first week in August & annual Traverse City Heritage Festival in mid-September.
Whether you're a Re-enactor, Spectator, into Family Genealogy, Civil War History or area Grand Traverse History; please feel free to join and support our group. The Twenty-sixth Regiment, being from the 26th state of the union, served in the 22nd Corps, (Alexandria), then the 7th Army Corps, (New York Draft Riots), and then in the Army of the Potomac, Hancock's 2nd Corps. (1st Division - Francis Barlow; 1st Brigade - Nelson A. Miles) The first regiment into the "Bloody Angle" at Spotsylvania, the 26th Michigan Volunteers also served as the home base camp for Michigan Relief Agent Julia Susan Wheelock, "Michigan's Florence Nightingale".
Other units we also "fall-in" with, to pay tribute to; include Berdan's - Co. B. 2nd Regiment U.S. Sharpshooters, the Field Hospital with Bat. D. 1st MI L.A. & the Irish Brigade's 116th PA. Many are also members of the Traverse City, Michigan Sons Of The Union Veterans Robert Finch Camp No. 14.
