Description

The 21st Battalion CEF was organized in Kingston Ontario in late 1914 under Lt Col W.S. Hughes, mostly of men and officers from Eastern Ontario.
It went overseas in May of 1915.
5326 men and officers passed through its ranks during the war. Only 106 of the originals entered Germany at the end of the war. Some 3328 were killed, wounded or went missing in action. 11 battle honors grace its colours. Over 300 medals and citations were earned. It disbanded after the job was done, but is perpetuated by The Princess of Wales Own Regiment in Kingston Ontario. A museum and a significant archives are located in The Armouries in Kingston Ont.
This discussion group is to facilitate an exchange and collection of information by those interested in the battalion and its men.
Please check our fascinating photo section, files on various topics, links to many other interesting sites, and our web site.(link at bottom of page) An Alpha list of the men and officers is contained in our file section.
If you wish to post messages and look at files and photos, you have to join the group. All new members messages are monitored for a short time to control spam. Remember this is a public forum and anything that should remain personal, should not be posted.
Gentlemanly conduct will be expected at all times. Thanks for clipping the previous exchanges from your posting.
If you feel we can assist you in your research, please don't hesitate to ask any question even if you didn’t have a 21st Btn ancestor. Sometimes those questions lead to the most interesting findings. And remember, the only dumb question is the one you didn’t ask.
