This group is dedicated to Civil War History,inspired by the amazing Twentieth Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, also known as the Harvard Regiment. This regiment served in the Second Corps of the Army of the Potomac from 1861 to 1865. They saw action at Ball's Bluff, Gettysburg, Antietam and many others however; they are best known for there suicide charge in the streets of Fredricksburg. By the end of the Civil War 260 men and officers of the 20th Massachusetts had been killed in battle,the fifth most of any union regiment. The photo is of the Rappahannock River at Fredericksburg where the 20th Massachusetts, 19th Massachusetts and the 7th Michigan would cross over in boats under fire becoming the first unit in American military unit to establish a beach head under fire.
