On April 23, 2007 the Pentacle was approved as an emblem of faith that can be inscribed on the headstones of Wiccan veteran's and placed in VA Cemeteries. It was a 10 year battle filled with angst and frustration, but victory finally came.

Wiccan and Pagan leaders from across the country came together to present a united front, and Pagans came out into the light of day to voice their concerns and wishes, stood up for their rights and proved that perseverance pays off. But for Pagans in general, the battle is still on!

There are still many sects of Paganism that are organized and distinctly different from Wicca that have their own symbols to identify their faith, and they have the same rights. The VA has no right to try to "clump" all Pagans together under one symbol that does NOT serve ALL Pagan faiths! The Asatru and the Druids will be the next to petition for their symbols to be recognized, and we must support their efforts with the same dedication that we fought for the Pentacle.

The VA must never again be allowed to "stonewall" ANY religion, or deny any symbol of a valid religion. The Asatru will be requesting that Thor's Hammer be added to the VA's list of approved emblems. The Druids also now have a petition asking that the Awen symbol of their faith be added to the list.

We do not want to be ignored or denied another 10 years in getting these emblems approved. The VA has no right to dictate what religion is to be deemed "valid" and they must be brought to that understanding. Pagans are Americans too, and as such we can no longer idly stand by and wait for things to happen. We must stand up for our rights! Start writing your letters to senators, congressmen, the VA, governors, local officials, local newspapers. Let them know that as Pagans we will stand together until all denominations of our faith are recognized and rewarded with their own emblems of faith!!
