Description

This is for all those interested in the development of the English Militia in the 17th Century, and more generally, the place of the Militia in the overal system of defence, its administration and place in the government structure.

You can find a copy of my PhD thesis (Cambridge, 1986) in the Files section.

"The Local Dimesions of Defence: The Standing Army and Militia
in Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, 1649-1660"

It has been scanned but not edited for mistakes in the scanning, but the pagination is correct and the scanning errors should be obvious (and I shall correct them in due course). You are welcome to use it, provided you reference it should you use it for any writing of publications
