Description

L513 (aka DF1) is an SNP subclade of the larger L21+ DF13+ clade. Z249 appears equivalent to L513. L513 people are scattered across the British Isles, Scandinavia, Benelux, France and even Germany. Many of the subgroups have Most Recent Common Ancestors that go back to 800-1200 AD.
Gaels, Medieval Normans, Flemish-Norman allies, Hiberno-Vikings, ancient Gauls or Brythonic Celts? or all of the above? Join the message board and share your ideas. Click on the "Messages" on the left to view the board. Let us know your Most Distant Ancestor information and any surname origin/folklore.
Check out the "Links" menu item on the left. Some family history links are there for this haplogroup. Also check the "Files" menu. A spreadsheet of confirmed and suspected L513 people is there. The Ysearch modal for L513 people is ZN8M3.
There are over 20 subgroups. Several are associated with SNP's. L193, L706.2, L705.2, L908, L909, L577, L9, L10, L192.1, L1333, L69(.5) and P66 are descended from L513.
The largest families include the Anglin, Banks, Barrett of Mayo, McKenzie, McClain/MacLean, St.Clair/Sinclair, Elliott, Kingston, Kelly of Kildare, Little/Lytle, Burns/Byrnes of Monaghan, Maguire/McGuire of Fermangagh, O'Gara, O'Shea of Cork, Ross/Rose of Kilvarock and Massey/Massie, Walsh/Welch/Welsh and Vance/Vans of Barnbarrch, Vance of N.Ireland.

Re: Questions about recruiting for Subgroup-W
Great work, Brandon. If you find an L513 suspect who is interested in broad SNP testing (i.e. mt and autosomal) as well as the Y chromosome, you might have

Re: L577 and subgroup E - the core MacKenzie's
Mike -- Connie McKenzie has done a great job of recruiting people to test for SNP L577. The Mackenzie DNA Project has targeted people with paper trails back to

L577 and subgroup E - the core MacKenzie's
It looks like L577 is doing a nice job of dividing subgroup E in the light/med blue. Has anything new been learned? Was the division expected? This all implies

Re: New SNP Z1867.2 found under R1b-L513 - subgroup J
I have (perhaps a bit of a silly) question about the new SNPs. Since no new SNPs were found in our data from Geo, is there any point in testing for them when
